Anne Reid is an English actress.
Biography[]
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before becoming a stage manager and repertory actress. After a number of small television roles, she became well-known for her role as Valerie Barlow in Coronation Street, later appearing on television in Dinner Ladies and Doctor Who (on two occasions) amongst other series.
Reid also had a number of film roles, appearing in Hot Fuzz, Song for Marion and The Mother, which her a BAFTA nomination. In later years she would appear in Last Tango in Halifax, and would voice Wendolene Ramsbottom in the Wallace and Gromit film A Close Shave.

As well as briefly singing in Upstairs, Downstairs, Reid released the album You Are the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me with her Last Tango in Halifax co-star Derek Jacobi. On stage, she played the role of Juno in Out of This World.
