Ben Kingsley is an English actor.

Biography[]

Born Krishna Bhanji in Snaiton in the North Riding of Yorkshire, he studied at the University of Salford and made his West End debut in 1967, shortly before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company. He began his acting career in such theatrical productions as Death of a Salesman and A Midsummer Night's Dream and television series such as Coronation Street before his Academy Award winning star turn as Mohandas Gandhi in Gandhi.

Kingsley appeared in a wide variety of films, gaining further Academy Award nominations for Sexy Beast and House of Sand and Fog, as well as more light-hearted turns in Without a Clue, Hugo and Iron Man 3. He received a knighthood for his services to acting in 2002.

Singing[]

Kingsley sang in two films, firstly and most considerably in Twelfth Night, where he sang a number of Shakespearean songs playing the character of Feste and later in Triumph of Love, where he played Hermocrates. He had also appeared as King Mongkhut in the 1992 studio album of The King and I.
