Benedict Cumberbatch is an English actor.

Born in London to an acting family, he studied drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and began work as a theatre actor, earning an Olivier Award nomination for his performance as George Tesman in Hedda Gabler and later winning one for his dual performance in Frankenstein.

Though he would appear in several films and television epiodes, it was as the titular character in Sherlock that Cumberbatch would acheive his greatest recognition. He subsequently lent his voice and motion capture abilities to the roles of "Smaug" and "The Necromancer" in The Hobbit Trilogy, and was Academy Award nominated for his role as troubled codebreaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.

Cumberbatch has sang on three occasions for roles, initially for radio, the first time being in Cabin Pressure in which he plays the nervy Captain Martin Crieff, singing "Come Fly Me" at the encouragement of his co-pilot, and joining the rest of his crew with "Busy Doing Nothing" and "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines". He later sang a melancholy solo as the Angel Islington in the radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.

In 2013, Cumberbatch appeared in August: Osage County, where he performs "Can't Keep It Inside", a song that appears on the film's official soundtrack.
