Charles Boyer was a French actor.

Biography[]

Born in Figeat, Lot, he began his show business career performing sketches for soldiers and later moved into stage performing and silent films. He soon gained an international reputation as a romantic with films such as Mayerling and Break of Hearts as well as his Academy Award nominated roles in Conquest and Gaslight.

Later Boyer returned to the theatre, gaining acclaim for his roles in Don Juan in Hell, The Marriage-Go-Round and Man and Boy. He would return to film mostly for character roles (though he gained another Academy Award nomination for Fanny) and appeared in television series The Rogues.

Boyer passed away in 1978.
