David Schofield is an English actor.


Born in Manchester, England, Schofield studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts before going on to appear (usually in character parts) in a number of major films, including An American Werewolf in London, Gladiator and the Pirates of the Caribbean series, in which he played the manservant/assassin Ian Mercer.

Schofield also had a succesful stage career in which he played larger roles than those onscreen, such as Joseph Merrick in The Elephant Man, Mark Anthony in Julius Caesar and Archie Rice in The Entertainer.


Schofield made several singing appearances on stage, as Macheath in The Beggar's Opera, and notably in the dual role of Pancho Vargas/Munoz in the spoof noir musical City of Angels.
