Humphrey Bogart was an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in New York City, Bogart initially joined the Navy before becoming a stage actor in the 1920s, appearing in a number of Broadway farces. He soon made his screen debut and had major roles in Up the River, The Petrified Forest and High Sierra, before making his name in film noir productions such as The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep.

Bogart's best known role came in 1942, when he played the roguish but ultimately heroic Rick Blaine in Casablanca. He also became known for his relationship with Lauren Bacall, and winning turns in John Huston's The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The African Queen (which earned him an Academy Award.)

Bogart passed away in 1957.
