Helena Bonham Carter is an English actress.
Biography[]
Born in Golders Green and coming from a long-line of nobility (including former Prime Minister Herbert Asquith), Bonham Carter began her career in film and television period dramas and adaptations of classics. She later gained an Academy Award nomination for The Wings of the Dove and played against type in Fight Club.
But Bonham Carter's career changed after appearing n 2001's Planet of the Apes directed by Tim Burton, whom she would later marry, and appear in several of his films, including Big Fish and Alice in Wonderland. She would later gain plaudits for her role as the Duchess of York in The King's Speech. Another defining role came in 2007, when she first played the role of Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series, a part she would play for four films.
Singing[]
Though confessing in 2007 she was not a strong singer, Bonham Carter has made several musical appearances, including in the feature film adaptations of two major musicals with Sweeney Todd in 2007 and Les Misérables in 2012. She also performed "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" in Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella.
Prior to this, she had sang briefly in her second film appearance, as Lucy in A Room With a View, and also whilst playing the eponymous character in her husband's stop-motion production Corpse Bride.
