Daniel Day Lewis is an Anglo-Irish actor.

Biography[]

Born in London to English mother and Irish father, Day-Lewis studied at the National Youth Theatre and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which he later performed at.

He had small appearances in Gandhi and The Bounty, before gaining recognition in A Room With a View and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. He gained his first Academy Award for Best Actor in My Left Foot, and, due to two further victories, became the only actor to have won the award three times as well as gaining a large number of nominations.

Day-Lewis became recognised for his Method style of acting, which led to him accepting fewer roles due to how deeply he gets into character, but also building him an international recognition and ultimately gaining him a knighthood for his services to acting.

Singing[]

Day-Lewis has only given one singing performance, in the 2009 film Nine, in which he plays tortured genius director Guido Contini.
