Shirley Henderson is a Scottish actress.

Biography[]

Born in Forres, Moray, Henderson began singing as a child and later graduated as an actress at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Gaining her big break in children's television series Shadow of the Stone, Henderson became a popular theatre actress, appearing as the female lead in Romeo and Juliet in Glasgow.

However, it was as a character actress on film that Henderson would become most commonly recognised, appearing in, amongst others, Bridget Jones' Diary, Trainspotting and in a recurring role as "Moaning" Myrtle in the Harry Potter series.

Singing[]

Henderson displayed her singing abilities in several productions, firstly and mostly notably when playing Leonora Braham in Topsy-Turvy, singing several songs Braham originated during her career with Gilbert and Sullivan. She also sang briefly during her appearance in Doctor Who as Ursula Blake, a member of the LINDA group.

Henderson portrayed the musically inclined, guitar playing Joy Jordan Mellencamp, who sings the title song in Life During Wartime. In 2017 she gave an Olivier Award winning performance as Elizabeth in Girl from the North Country.
