John Hurt was an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Hurt studied for two years at RADA before becoming a familiar face on television, earning recognition for his roles in 10 Rillington Place, I, Claudius and The Naked Civil Servant, in which he played Quentin Crisp.

Hurt came to international attention in the late 70s and 1980s due a brief to a brief but memorable role in Alien, as well as an Academy Award nominated turn as John "The Elephant Man" Merrick. Since this time, Hurt gained wide renown amongst younger audiences for roles in the Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Indiana Jones series. He was knighted for his services to acting in 2015.

Hurt passed away in 2017.

Singing[]

In his long career, Hurt took a handful of singing roles, singing "Silent Night" in his early film Mr. Forbush and The Penguins, in a more substantial solo as the nefarious Chancellor Sebastian in A Monkey's Tale, and singing a snippet of the traditional ballad "Pokarekare Ana" in Lou.
