John Wayne was an American actor.
Biography[]
Born Marion Morrison in Winterset, Iowa, he began acting following an injury that prevented a career in sports. Wayne had his first starring role in The Big Trail and his first major success with Stagecoach. He soon became well known for his roles in Westerns including The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, though he also made appearances in such productions as The High and Mighty and Lady for a Night.
Wayne won an Academy Award for his performance in True Grit and would direct the critically acclaimed The Alamo (in which he also starred) and The Green Berets.
Wayne passed away in 1979.
Singing[]
Wayne did not often sing, usually being dubbed, but sang a few song fragments in his career, including "Pittsburgh" in the film of the same name and "Willow, tit-Willow" in The Shootist.
