Natalie Wood was an American actress.

Biography[]

Born Natalia Zakharenko in San Francisco, California, she began her career aged four as a child actress and made her first major film appearance in 1947's Miracle on 34th Street. She continued to act throughout her childhood and into teenage, appearing in such films as The Searchers and Rebel Without a Cause, the latter of which earned her an Academy Award nomination.

Wood soon gained two further nominations for Splendor in the Grass and Love With the Proper Stranger and had great success with such films as West Side Story (playing Maria), Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and Here to Eternity.

Wood passed away in 1981.

Singing[]

After her duet with Frank Sinatra on The Frank Sinatra Show, Wood sang in a number of films, despite having most of her role dubbed in West Side Story (amongst others) but performing several numbers in Gypsy, including "Let Me Entertain You."

Wood would also go on to sing in Penelope (in which she played the title role) and the television movie The Affair.
