Gary Oldman is an English actor.


Born in New Cross, London, he was initially a singer and musician before studying at the Young People's Theatre and later Rose Bruford College. He made his stage debut in 1979 as Dick Whittington's cat and his film debut in 1982's Remembrance. He soon gained acclaim for his appearances in Sid and Nancy and Prick Up Your Ears.

Renowned for his versatility, Oldman went on to play such varied roles as the corrupt Police Chief Norman Stansfield in Leon, Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight Trilogy, Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series and Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, as well as receiving an Academy Award nomination for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. He also worked as a voice actor on a number of occasions, including as Lord Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2 and Ignitus in The Legend of Spyro video games.


Oldman displayed his singing talents in several films, the first and most notable being in Sid and Nancy where he performed "My Way" amongst other numbers. He also sang "M-O-T-H-E-R" in Track 29 and the villainous solo "Ruber" in The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot.
