Hugo Weaving is a Nigerian born Australian-English actor.
Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, he lived in both England and Australia in his youth, studying at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. He began in the television series Bodyline, appearing in a number of small scale productions before gaining wider attention; first nationally with Proof , and then on a more global scale with The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Weaving then gained stardom through appearances in two blockbuster series, as Agent Smith in The Matrix Trilogy and as Elrond in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Though he would continue with large scale roles, including the titular V in V for Vendetta and the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, Weaving also made a number of stage appearances, notably in Hedda Gabler opposite Cate Blanchett, and as a voice actor, playing the villainous Megatron in the Transformers series.
Weaving has a number of singing credits to his name, beginning with the short film Road to Alice. Most notably however, he would sing in the cult movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert as the drag queen Mitzi Del Bra.
