Ian McKellen is an English actor.

BiographyEdit

Born in Burnley, Lancashire, he started his career studying at Bolton Acting School, and began acting in various Shakespeare plays such as Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, as well as making his first professional appearance in A Man For All Seasons.

In the 1990s, McKellen began to become a popular screen actor, being cast in two major franchises, as the supervillain Magneto in the X-Men series, and as Gandalf the wizard in the film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy series. He has also been a lifelong campaigner for the rights of gays, having come out in the 1960s. McKellen was notably been awarded six Oliviers, a Tony, a Golden Globe and two Academy Award nominations among others, as well as receiving a knighthood for his services to acting.

SingingEdit

Despite a lengthy career, McKellen has only sung in a handful of roles, in Apt Pupil, he sings "Que Sera, Sera" as the Nazi Kurt Dussander, and in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring he sings the travelling song "The Road Goes Ever On", upon his arrival in the Shire.

McKellen did however have a larger singing role in his role as Cogsworth in the live-action Beauty and the Beast.
