Isabel Bigley was an American actress.

Biography[]

Born in the Bronx, New York City, Bigley studied for a career in acting from the age of twelve, before becoming a stenographer and later getting her big break after auditioning for Oklahoma!

Despite a resulting succesful theatrical career, Bigley retired in 1958 to look after her children.

She passed away in 2006.

Singing[]

Bigley's theatre career resulted in a number of musical roles, several of them historically notable. She began in the chorus in Oklahoma! before elevating to the role of Armina, and finally the female lead, Laurey Williams.

This role led to her being cast as the original Miss Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, for which she achieved great acclaim and a Tony Award, and later had the part of Jeannie in Me and Juliet written for her.
