James Woods is an American actor.


Born in Vernal, Utah, he studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before becoming a theatrical actor, making his Broadway debut in 1970's Borstal Boy before appearing in Moonchildren and Finishing Touches. Woods soon became a recognised film actor, with roles in The Onion Fields and Once Upon a Time in America. Woods received two Academy Award nominations, for Salvador and Ghosts of Mississippi.

Woods also made a number of television appearances, including as H.R. Haldeman in the biopic Nixon, Emmy nominated turns in Promise and My Name is Bill W. and the leading character in Shark. He lent his voice to the villainous Hades in Hercules and numerous tie-in productions, as well as playing a recurring antagonistic version of himself on Family Guy.


Woods made both of his singing appearances as part of his voiceover career, as Hades in the animated Hercules television series and as himself in Family Guy.
