Joanna Lumley is an Indian born English actress and comedian.


Born in Srinagar, British India, Lumley was initially a model before having small roles in Some Girls Do and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. She gained greater recognition for her roles on television including The New Avengers, Sapphire & Steel and most notably as Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous.

Lumley then went on to appear in such films as James and the Giant Peach, The Cat's Meow and The Wolf of Wall Street and provided voices and advertisements for various media items. She also became well known as an activist, notably as a supporter of the Gurkhas.


Lumley sang several times on television, including duetting on the karaoke machine several times in Absolutely Fabulous and performing in a Comic Relief sketch based on Mamma Mia! She also sang in Corpse Bride, performing in the opening quartet "According to Plan."
