John Savident is a Guernsey born British actor.

Born in Guernsey, Savident was a common face on British television, playing a recurring role in Yes, Minister, as well as having a featured part in A Clockwork Orange. He was most popular, however, for his role as the butcher Fred Elliot in Coronation Street, a character who was killed off in 2005.

Savident sang on a number of occasions in role and has had a large impact, originating the role of Monsieur Richard Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera (as well as joining the original cast for the bows at the 25th Anniversary Special). Savident also sang briefly in the finale of Simon Nye's pantomime Aladdin, in which he played the Dame role of Widow Twankey.

He returned to a larger sung role in 2009, as the pompous Sir Joseph Porter in H.M.S. Pinafore.
