Maggie Smith is an English actress.

Biography[]

Born Margaret Smith in Ilford, Essex, she studied acting at the Oxford Playhouse, where she played Viola in Twelfth Night. After an uncredited film debut in 1956, she received a BAFTA two years later for her appearance in Nowhere to Go. She would receive acclaim and multiple awards for her work on stage (appearing in plays suchs as The Private Ear, Much Ado About Nothing and Night and Day)

Smith gained two Academy Awards for her appearances in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite respectively, as well as appearing in comedies and blockbusters such as the Harry Potter series, in which she played Professor McGonagall. She would also receive several awards for her role in Downton Abbey.

Singing[]

Smith performed the number "One Perfect Moment" in the revue New Faces of 1956, following this up with an appearance in the revue Share My Lettuce. Onscreen she sang two numbers as a Music Hall Singer in Oh! What a Lovely War.
