Miranda Richardson is an English actress.
Born in Southport, Lancashire, Richardson studied at the Bristol Old Vic alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and Jenny Seagrove, beginning an illustrious stage career that reached its peak with an Olivier Award nomination in 1987 for Lie of the Mind.
On-screen, she found success in television as the comically childish Queen Elizabeth I in Blackadder, and in films as Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain. Though multi-talented, Richardson has often played antagonistic roles such as Rita Skeeter in the Harry Potter series, and the Queen in Snow White: The Fairest of Them All. She has also been a voice actress on several occasions, playing Mrs. Tweedy in Chicken Run, and Lady Groan in the radio adaptation of Gormenghast.
Twice Richardson has sung during her career, on booth occasions whilst playing French characters. The first was as the ballet mistress Madame Giry in The Phantom of the Opera, the second time as a character known only as "The Wonan in the Red Coat" in Paris, je t'aime.
