Peggy Mount was an English actress.

Biography[]

Loving acting from a young age in Essex, Mount appeared in numerous wartime and amateur dramatic productions, she became renowned for her role as Emma Barnett in Sailor Beware on the West End, a role which she had originated.

Some time later, Mount became known for appearing in sitcoms such as The Larkins and George and the Dragon. She was most famous, however, for her stage roles, the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Mrs Malaprop and Mother Courage.

In the 1990s she suffered a series of strokes forcing her to retire. She passed away in 2001.

Singing[]

Mount had only one musical role in her career as Widow Corney (the future Mrs. Bumble) in the film adaptation of the stage musical Oliver!, where she sings the title song alongside Harry Secombe and the boys.
