Richard Haydn was an English actor.
Born in Camberwell, London, George Richard Haydn was a music hall entertainer and the overseer of a banana plantation in Jamaica before becoming an actor, beginning with theatrical roles and frequent appearances on radio before a break into film.
Haydn made a number of memorable character appearances throughout his career, as the manservant Rogers in And Then There Were None, as the technophobe Bartlett Finchlay in The Twilight Zone, and perhaps most memorably as Max Detweiler in The Sound of Music.
Haydn passed away in 1985.
Haydn has only one singing credit to his name on film, performing "AEIOU" as the mysterious Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland. He also appeared in the stage revue One for the Money, for which he also wrote several sketches.
