Biography

Born in Hastings-on-Hudson in 1968, Lake made her film debut with style in the leading role of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray and summarily appeared in a number of other films including Working Girl and Cry-Baby. As well as her eponymous talk show, Lake also appeared in a number of television series, such as Matters of Life and Dating and documentaries, including The Business of Being Born and Sweetening the Pill.

Singing

As a tip of the hat to her role in the original film, Lake joined fellow Tracy Turnblads Nikki Blonsky and Marissa Jaret Winokur in singing "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" for the soundtrack of Hairspray in 2007.
