Stephen Root is an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Sarasota, Florida, he trained in the BFA Acting Program and received early recognition for his voice work on programmes such as King of the Hill and films including Ice Age and Finding Nemo as well as various collaborations with the Coen Brothers. A versatile character actor, he also appeared in the black comedy Office Space and 2009's The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Aside from his film work, Root made a number of television appearances, from guest roles such as in Seinfeld and Frasier to recurring parts in Pushing Daisies (as the mysterious Dwight Dixon) and Grounded for Life.

Singing[]

Root twice sang onscreen both times performing numbers from classic musicals. On the first occassion he sang "Summer Nights" in Grounded for Life, on the second "God That's Good" in Jersey Girl.
