Sylvia Syms is an English actress.

Biography[]

Born in Woolwich, London, Syms studied at the the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and made early major appearances in films including My Teenage Daughter, Ice Cold in Alex and Victim. Following this she often appeared in comedies but would gain plaudits for her dramatic turn as Margaret Stephenson in The Tamarind Seed.

In later years, Syms often appeared on television, including on Doctor Who, playing the title role in Thatcher: The Final Years, and in the series At Home with the Braithwaites. She also played the Queen Mother in the Academy Award winning picture The Queen. Her daughter Beatie Edney is also an actress.

In her extensive career, Syms performed "You Can Look at the Goods, But Don't Touch" as Maisie King in Expresso Bongo and "Youth's the Season" in A Chorus of Disapproval.
