Vanessa Redgrave is an English actress.
Born in Greenwich, London to actors Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, and followed the family profession by studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama. She played a number of classical roles including Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Rosalind in As You Like It and received her first major success for creating the titular role in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She also began a successful film career and earned her first Academy Award nomination for Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment.
Redgrave maintained a consistently successful career with a wide variety of roles, including the widely succesful but controversial Julia in 1978. Though most frequently seen in period dramas, she also ventured into romantic comedy (Letters to Juliet) and television series such as Call the Midwife. Her daughters Joely and Natasha also became actresses.
Redgrave's career contained a number of musical roles, largely and most notably that of Guenevere in 1967's Camelot, where she met her future husband, Franco Nero. She also had brief singing roles in a number of other productions, including Song for Marion, where she plays the titular character, whose love for music inspires her husband to take part in a seniors' choir.
